Trivia / Better Call Saul S6 E11: "Breaking Bad"

Go To

  • Role Association: It's not surprising Alfred Hawthorne Hill would have a problem with overconsuming alcohol, considering as a kid he would purposely overconsume cheese pizza so his little brother wouldn't get any.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot:
    • According to Thomas Schnauz, Walt and Jesse's scenes had to be written and shot 6-7 months before the episode officially entered production (let alone before the rest of the script was even written). This was necessitated by Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul both only having a limited window of availability during the shooting of the final Season. Revisiting the events of "Better Call Saul" was also partly chosen for the 2008 flashbacks because the production team felt it was the only point in the parent show's narrative where they could address Lalo.
    • According to that same interview, Walt and Jesse's RV stalling was also written in to avoid the technical and logistical challenges of trying to film in a moving vehichle.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: The scene with Walter and Jesse is a flashback to when they took Saul out to the desert in "Better Call Saul", so both of them are still wearing their ski masks. This fortuitously helps in concealing how much Paul has visibly aged since that original scene was filmed — and, in Cranston's case, avoids the need for him to either shave his head or wear a bald cap — as does setting the scene at night inside the dark RV.
  • Word of God: One of the people Gene asks Francesca about is "Danny". Writer Thomas Schnauz clarified this to be a reference to Daniel Wormald aka Pryce, who he likes to imagine was running the laser tag place for Saul.
