  • Enforced Method Acting: To retain Sophie's naivety, Frankie Corio was given a redacted version of the script that omitted all of Calum's solo scenes. This way, she was given an even smaller window into Calum's depression to play off and could exist more "in the moment."
  • Fake Scot: Paul Mescal is Irish, and his character Calum is from Edinburgh.
  • Permanent Placeholder: "Under Pressure" was originally used as a temp track for the dance scene, but Charlotte Wells and editor Blair McClendon eventually realized that the song's lyrics suited the scene's subtext.
  • What Could Have Been: The screenplay had a slightly extended ending than the final cut: after Calum goes into the doors of the rave, the camera would continue its 360-degree pan back to the adult Sophie who would leave the couch to get her crying baby until it stopped at Calum and young Sophie running to the beach as the final shot. Also worth noting that Calum in the empty hallway would've smiled and wave at the camera before leaving as opposed to not even looking at the audience as he left in the film.
