• It's very hard to watch Griffin's breakdown after his parents reject him.

• Hoarfrost has a lot of these from Griffin as well. The book starts with the gang at a funeral they made for Griffin's father, after Griffin receives a brief note telling him "Pa died. Don't come to the funeral." And it only gets worse from there.
• In Bloodline, Whyborne having to watch his mother sacrifice herself to save him.
