• Lazarus points out several times that, for Howards, marrying an ephemeral isn't a good idea. This is for various reasons, but keeping up the Masquerade is the biggest (given) reason. Then he tells about his marriage to Dora... and having to deal with her death of natural old age. And then you realize what the real reason is: that the pain of losing a loved one might be enough to make even a Howard want to cut his or her own life short.
