Tear Jerker / The Debt (1999)

• Adam's relationship with Basia and his family definitely counts.
  • Due to obvious reasons, Adam is unable to visit Basia when she's in hospital thus exposing her to a lot of stress which in turn leads her to miscarry the baby. And when he finally shows up to check on her, the ice-cold tone Basia's roommate puts on to inform him about what happened, it becomes painfully apparent why we see Adam cry for the first time in the entire movie: not only did he suffer a personal tragedy, not only did he probably lose the woman he loved, but now everybody will blame him for it and he can't even tell the truth to defend himself.
  • Basically, what makes the whole experience even less bearable than it already was is the fact that Adam and Stefan have pretty much nobody they could talk to about it, let alone anybody that could help them out in any way.
