  • When the Landlady wakes up, Chiyo informs her that she has no memory of what they did the night before, and upon being told, states in no uncertain terms that she regrets doing it. The Landlady seems genuinely hurt and confused by this, as she thought (and later flashbacks support) that Chiyo had been into it at the time.
  • When told she could share the Landlady's apartment, Chiyo states there's only one bed, and worries what would happen if the Landlady attacked her. The Landlady shoots a Death Glare that belies how hurtful the statement was. She tells Chiyo that if she feels that way, she should just get out.
  • We learn Chiyo was demoted for an unsuccessful product, leading her to quit. She was clearly shaken, as she spent three months unemployed, not even looking for a job.
  • The Landlady tells Chiyo that she has no female friends because she was always afraid of her feelings becoming romantic, and not being reciprocated.
  • In Chapter 9, it turns out that Chiyo's new neighbor Setouchi is divorced, since she and her husband decided to go their separate ways due to their incompatible lifestyles, and that she had a crush on a delivery girl, only to fall out of touch with the latter. The fact that she feels the need to insist to Chiyo that she's fine, and that she breaks down in tears over how much she misses the delivery girl show that this is more painful for her than she lets on.
  • In Chapter 12, Chiyo comes to the realization that she has fallen in love with the Landlady, and actually says so to her. But the Landlady dismisses it as "service" for the debt contract, telling Chiyo not to say such things to her, but save them for the person she genuinely loves.
  • Ritsuka confesses her love for Chiyo, then tells her that when she came out as a lesbian, she all but lost all of her family and friends. She says that if she can't be permitted to love the person she wants to, she'd rather just be bound by the contract. Chiyo's response is Heartwarming.
