  • Ana confesses to Clara that her father disowned her after she decided not to abort the unborn child and the rest of her family equally severed ties with her. While she says she doesn't care that much, it's clear she misses her old life.
  • It's obvious that Clara is broken by Ana's death. So much that she considers abandoning the baby by the river until its cries convince her otherwise.
  • Joel discovers that Clara knew his real mother and was lying about how she found him. He's outright pissed by the revelation and understandably refuses to listen to Clara when she tries telling the truth until the next morning. And even after, it's well-shown he's feeling more distant from her.
  • The morning after the mall incident, Joel asks Clara if he can call Maurício, completely unaware that he mauled him last night.
    • Not to mention the shot of Joel looking at Maurício's empty desk in a scene that comes not long after, not realizing why his closest classmate is absent and not knowing he'll never see him again.
  • During the festival, Joel realizes he can be dangerous and begs Amanda to leave just before he fully transforms. There's a high chance that before his consciousness faded once more, he realized what he did to Maurício.
  • The ending.
    • First there's the fact that the townspeople at the festival, who treated Joel as a good neighbor ever since he was born, are now completely willing to hunt him down and more-than-likely kill him (for something he wasn't even aware he had) with the possible exception of Amanda as she's shown shaking her head at her grandmother as the mob runs by her.
      • Look closely. The man leading the mob? Maurício's father. No doubt when he learned what Joel was, he was quick to realize what that meant for his own child and is fully intending to avenge him.
    • Second, there's how Dona Amélia finally wakes from her anesthetic-induced coma and can only watch as the mob runs by her home, with an expression that can either be seen as confusion or, considering that she discovered Joel's secret earlier, regret.
    • Then there's Clara tearfully singing the lullaby she heard Ana sing earlier in the movie as an attempt to convince wolf!Joel not to hurt her. Thankfully, this works.
    • Finally, the last shot of the film has Clara and wolf!Joel looking at the door the mob is furiously banging on, both anticipated to fight them off. While Joel is determined to protect himself and Clara, Clara is more fearful. With the Smash to Black right then and there, we are left unsure if they won or even survived.
