• Military zombies, many of them are recruited from poor and war-torn countries with little hope for the situation to improve

• Jim Moore and his son Siri Keeton: Jim chooses his son Siri for the Theseus mission as he is the most qualified synthesist in the field. His sanity starts going downhill after Theseus lost contact with Earth, Bruks discovers that Moore spends most of his time going through archives of communication logs with Theseus, looking for information about Siri.
  • Moore makes the hard decision to plunge the Icarus Array into the sun to get rid of Portia, which will result in Theseus losing its source of energy and the death of its crew, including Siri.
  For Moore so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, twice.
  (Humans on Earth, while a worldwide energy crisis will occur) They would not run out of air, at least. They would not freeze to death in the endless arid wastes between the stars. (While the Theseus crew would, although they are already killed in combat with Rorschach during Blindsight, anyway)

• Rakshi joins the dangerous mission of piloting Crown of Thorns to make money as her wife Celu is on class 4 life support, which she cannot afford. However, Dan Bruks knows Celu's situation is much worse than what Rakshi would like to believe.
  Then you're wrong. She doesn't have a chance. She doesn't. I don't care how much they spend keeping her heart beating, there's no coming back from something like that.

• Valerie's remark "Wouldn't it be nice if we could all just get along?" before her death being stabbed by Dan Bruks, controlled by Portia
