Won't Give Their Alibi is when an accused has an alibi that can absolve them of an accusation or crime but will not give it.
There are multiple reasons why a person won't give their alibi. Maybe their alibi is too embarrassing to reveal. Maybe they are protecting someone they assume did the crime. Or maybe their alibi can convict them of a crime they actually did commit.
If pressure enough, the accused may finally reveal their alibi. Usually this happens near the climax of a story. Otherwise a third party, often a trusted individual who may have been told the accused secret, will prove their innocence.
- Legally Blonde: Ella becomes part of a legal team defending Brooke Taylor Windham who is accused of killing her rich husband. Since Ella is the only person Brooke truly trust, she reveals that she was getting liposuction when her husband was killed. She is unable to reveal this alibi because it would ruin her career as a fitness instructor. Ella doesn't reveal the alibi to the other legal team, but was able to prove Brooke's innocence when she figures it was Cheney, Brooke's step-daughter, who accidentally killed her father in attempt to kill Brooke.
- Fire Country: In the climax of the fire arsonist arc, Jake ends up becoming the prime suspect thanks to a combination of a past incident as a child of him setting his house on fire and that he was in Drake County, the latest wild fire, during his day off. When confronted about why he was in Drake County, he doesn't give an answer, upset that they don't trust him despite all the years they known him. In the end, Bode is able to figure out the true arsonist was Colin who had a twisted hero complex. Afterwards, Jake does confide to Bode that he was in Drake County to see if his half-brother maybe a kidney match for Sharon since Jake couldn't give his.
In one episode, Spinelli ends up in recess court for hitting Randall with a rock during a dirt clot war. While T.J. and the others believe Spinelli didn't do it, she unwittingly to tell them her side of the incident. In the climax, she finally reveals what happen. While Spinelli was going to hit Randall with a dirt clot in retaliation for him hitting her during a time out, she stopped when she noticed a kitten stuck on top of a tree and rescued it. While at first no believes her, Ms. Finster backs up her claim since it was her cat. It also turns out Randall hit himself with a rock to frame Spinelli because he was mad Finster praised Spinelli for rescuing her cat but never once praised him despite being her snitch.
