After returning to the mansion, Wolverine and Beast work to try and bring the disbanded X-Men back together. However, some members like Cyclops, Colossus, and Rogue are reluctant to return to the team. Rogue has even joined the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, who have sinister plans to attack Senator Kelly.
Kelly is pushing for a Mutant Registration Act, seeing mutants as a threat that needs to be controlled. Meanwhile, Warren Worthington, the father of the former X-Man Angel, is funding the Mutant Response Division (MRD) and helping them develop anti-mutant robots and technology.
The remaining X-Men, led by Wolverine and Beast, seek to stop the Brotherhood's plans and prevent the Mutant Registration Act from being passed, despite the government's increasingly hostile stance towards mutants. They must contend with not only the Brotherhood, but also the growing MRD threat as they try to reestablish the X-Men and protect mutantkind.
It's a delicate balance as the X-Men try to reunite their team, confront their former allies who have joined the Brotherhood, and prevent the government's crackdown on mutants from spiraling out of control.
