"Ráthwald is right, my friend. Without a truly magnificent weapon forged in the ways of Old, we cannot hope to so much as score the flesh of that ancient creature. But relics of the past sometimes turn up when least expected. My friends and I found a cache of ancient weapons not long after the Iron Garrison came to this place. Select one of these weapons, and it may be that your choice will help us clear the way into Moria of that terrible creature. Take too these Settings, for I know of one who can help you understand their uses, and those of other relics as well."

     Prologue — The Fellowship Departs 
Help the Fellowship prepare to leave Rivendell.
     Book 1 — The Walls of Moria 
The Iron Garrison has arrived at the West-gate of Khazad-dum. You help them prepare to enter, but you are all driven off by the Watcher in the Water. You discover a cache of ancient weapons that can defeat the creature. Once you have increased the weapon's power to a sufficient degree, you face the creature again, and drive it off. Khazad-dum is open!
     Book 2 — Echoes in the Dark 
The dwarves prepare to settle Moria. They locate an ancient library which speaks of the Way of Smiths, a smithy of great power. You help them locate it, and they establish a seat of power in the Twenty-first Hall.
     Book 3 — The Lord of Moria 
Continue to help the dwarves establish a foothold in Moria. Assist them in driving off Saruman's commander, but beware — the Book of Mazarbul reveals that the true orc-leader is an ancient goblin named Mazog, descendant of Azog.
     Book 4 — Fire and Water 
The dwarves prepare an offensive against Mazog's orcs. Help them find a way to an ancient underway that will lead them to the mithril axe Zigilburk.
     Book 5 — Drums in the Deep 
The dwarves discover that Dol Guldur is behind Mazog's forces. Bori launches an attack upon his stronhold, but Gorothul traps him. He lets you go to Bring News Back. Mazog launches a counterattack against the Iron Garrison. Help the dwarves repel the orcs.
     Book 6 — The Shadowy Abyss 
Travel to Lothlorien to recruit help from the elves. Once they agree, assist them in driving off the ancient evil creatures that lurk in the Foundations of Stone.
     Book 7 — The Leaves of Lorien 
Render further assistance to the elves of Lorien, then capture Mazog.
     Book 8 — Scourge of Khazad-dum 
Gorothul has left beacons that will draw the nameless entities that inhabit the lower deeps to the surface. Destroy these beacons and the creatures already drawn to them.
     Book 9 — Fortress of the Nazgul 
The time has come to attack Dol Guldur. You attempt to trade Mazog for Bori, but negotiations go astray. Time for Plan B: an assault upon Dol Guldur itself that will free Bori and kill Mazog.
     Epilogue 
Help the Dwarves of Khazad-dum and Elves of Lorien complete their designs in Moria and Mirkwood.
