Recap / Trollz E 2 Five Spells Trouble

Go To

The girls take Amethyst to a spell shop so she can get her own spell bead bracelet, allowing her to cast spells on her own. To Amethyst spells are a big responsibility, but to Ruby they're made to be used—they prank Jasper by casting a hair removal spell, but he likes the new look. When the girls decide the cute, clumsy Coal needs more than one Troll to help him be cool, Amethyst, Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz, and Onyx cast the spell together... and an earthquake hits Trollzopolis as a powerful burst of magic is cast.

When the smoke clears, Coal is literally cool—he's turned into an ice statue. The girls head back to the spell shop, but in place of the saleslady is the mysterious Obsidian, who informs them that they used an ancient but powerful spell known as "the Magic of the Five", a combined spell used by five Trolls, and the spell would only wear off once Coal melted, and only a counter-spell will free him. She leads them through a magic portal and to a sacred oak grove, where they find the ruins of an ancient city. Obsidian explains that the powerful spell they cast, using the Magic of the Five, awakened an ancient evil that brought the old Trollz world to an end. Amethyst is distraught, but Obsidian reassures the girls. The battle with the dark power scared their ancestors enough to reduce magic to a plaything, but by working together, they can touch its deeper power.

At the Sacred Altar, the girls place four of their five gems into slots, but Amethyst is missing a space for hers—and terrible growls and snarls fill the air as the ground opens beneath them. Amethyst's gem is knocked loose and she almost falls into a pit trying to grab it, but Onyx helps rescue her. Amethyst places her gem in the middle of the circle, and, saying the incantation backwards, the girls free Coal from the spell and are magically transported back to the mall, their gems returned to them. Amethyst and Coal have a puppy love moment as they leave the mall that night.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Exact Words: "Though some may say he's just a fool, our spell will make that boyfriend cool." Coal actually becomes cool — as in cool as ice.
  • Now Do It Again, Backwards: Saying the spell worded backwards reverses it.
  • Second Episode Introduction:
    • In this episode, the girls cast a powerful spell together, which has unleashed a Sealed Evil in a Can.
    • Obsidian and Coal make their debuts, the latter being his first speaking role.
  • Prank Call: Amethyst pulls on on Jasper by using Ruby's spell phone to cast a spell making his hair disappear. Jasper is stunned, but he likes his new look on the spot.
  • Taken for Granite: The girls turn Coal into ice by mistake. The spell would only wear off when he melted, so they have to reverse things quickly.
  • Tempting Fate: The girls decide to cast a spell together to make Coal "cool".
Sapphire: Mathematically, the odds are in our favor. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?
