Recap / The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody S 2 E 9 Books And Birdhouses

Go To

After Zack enrolls in woodshop, Cody claims it is easy; he joins the class, only to discover that it's harder than it seems. Meanwhile, London steals Maddie's short story idea and ends up getting book deals and fame after Maddie promised to keep silent.

Tropes:

  • Artistic License – Religion: After Sister Dominick tells Maddie that envy is one of the seven deadly sins, Maddie goes on to tell London that stealing is as well, which is not true.
  • The B Grade: Played with. At first, after realising that he is incompetent in woodshop, Cody stresses out, having a nightmare that he's being rejected from college for having gotten a B in middle school wood shop. After handing in his original work, a misshaped "birdhouse", the teacher says that its an F but if its a wheelbarrow its a C. Cody says its a wheelbarrow and gladly accepts the C although the grade is worse than the one he dreamt of.
Carey: (to Cody) Oh, honey. It must be hard for you to get a C.
  • Hard Truth Aesop: It is very easy to plagiarize without meaning to. Maddie wasn't trying to steal the other writer's story, but she still based it off of her work subconsciously.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: After Mr. Woodburn sees Cody's poorly constructed birdhouse, he tells him that if he submits it as a wheelbarrow he'll give him a C instead of an F if he submits it as a birdhouse. Cody happily tells him it's a wheelbarrow.
  • Stolen Credit Backfire: Turns out Maddie based her idea on a story by another writer she had subconsciously remembered. Since London took credit for the story and has more money, she’s sued for plagiarism by the original author.
  • Swapped Roles: Zack and Cody's usual roles as students get flipped in woodshop class, where Zack is the naturally gifted top student adored by their teacher, while Cody is the poor student who struggles to pass the class.
