Mimimi starts providing the girls with beauty lessons, prompting Rentarou to start embarking on a "light" jog of 42 kilometers.note Before he can begin, he notices a girl in black walking by, who he recognizes as fellow classmate Meme Kakure. A sudden windstorm sends a sign flying her way, but she's more concerned about keeping her bangs over her face. Rentarou tackles her away from the sign, giving him a good enough glimpse of her face to trigger a ZING!! Meme's obsession with her bangs boils down to wanting to come off as a background character, but Rentarou notes that covering her face only draws more attention to herself. When Rentarou calls her cute, Meme disappears in a flash, which leads Rentarou to ponder if his other girlfriends have special powers.
The next day, Rentarou finds a plushie and a note from Meme in his shoe cubby. He tries talking to her several times, only for her to disappear when he tries to get her attention. He asks the girlfriends in his class if they know Meme.
Rentarou finds Meme again after school and tries to apologize to her. Meme explains that she's not upset at him, but too embarrassed about him perceiving her existence. Unable to properly convey her feelings for him, Meme asks Rentarou to forget about her. This only prompts Rentarou to confess to her, causing her to disappear for good.
...But Rentarou refuses to accept this development and combs the entire school top to bottom in search of Meme. Coming up empty but knowing she hasn't left the school, Rentarou deduces that she's hiding right behind his back and starts spinning around to wear her out. He eventually succeeds, explaining that she doesn't need to be able to spell out her feelings to be able to fall in love. Her relief is short lived when her minimizing bra snaps, causing her to vanish yet again.

- Credits Gag: When Rentarou confesses to Meme, she gets so embarrassed she disappears. The captions on the next page say "It was the last time that anyone would see her ever again. She was the one person he couldn't save..." and the end-of-chapter credits announce that the series will now be retitled "The 99 Girlfriends Who...". Rentarou, of course, is having none of this and rips the previous pages out.
