During HYDRA's takeover, Lunella "Moon Girl" Lafayette sits in her bedroom and watches supervillains and superheroes battle with a telescope. Her mother pulls her away and says that Lunella could get hurt if she gets nosy around supervillains, and that what's going on outside doesn't concern them. She thus fakes going to bed by piling up some props under her blanket in the shape of a body and also playing recorded snoring noises from her iPhone through a speaker, then runs down the wall of her building using her inversion-gravity boots so she can find Devil Dinosaur. She sees a fleeing mob of people and figures Devil Dinosaur scared them, then goes in the direction they came from to find superheroes and supervillains battling with Devil Dinosaur caught in the middle.
Lafayette tries to move Devil Dinosaur but he won't budge, and when she gets close she sees he is sheltering several civilians. She complains that Devil Dinosaur is going to get them both killed for some strangers, then tells the people that she'll help them get to safety. She opens a fire hydrant to knock a supervillain aside while two others abandon their positions and rush at Devil Dinosaur; together this clears a path for the civilians to flee. Devil Dinosaur then runs and manages to get away from the supervillains, slowing only long enough for Lafayette to grab onto his tail as he runs. Then the supervillains vanish and Lafayette tells Devil Dinosaur he can stop running, but instead he charges full speed ahead and jumps into the Hudson. Lafayette complains at her dinosaur's stupidity but then sees the Darkforce Dome forming over Manhattan; they are just barely outside the shell. She notes that the situation is really bad and asks if Devil Dinosaur can swim to Jersey City; she wants to find Kamala "Ms. Marvel" Khan.
In the present day, Calvin "Mr. Hyde" Zabo stands at the forefront of several of the HYDRA Avengers, including Wanda "Scarlet Witch" Maximoff (possessed by Chthon), Wade "Deadpool" Wilson, Tony "Taskmaster" Masters, and Vision, as well as an army of agents. He asks Daisy "Quake" Johnson, his daughter, to surrender. She refuses and leads her team (Khan, Karnak, Dante "Inferno" Pertuz, Lafayette, and Devil Dinosaur) into battle. Masters attacks Karnak and boasts that he's been looking forward to the fight for years, to which Karnak calls him pathetic. Meanwhile, the fireproof Vision just flies through Pertuz's blasts, and Maximoff hexes Khan to disrput her attacks. Wilson dodges Devil Dinosaur and charges towards Lafayette, boasting as he runs that he loves fighting toddlers, but Lafayette just kicks him in the crotch and then has Devil Dinosaur eat him. She also calls him a 'bootleg Spider-Man.'
Johnson uses her powers to knock Zabo back but can't take him down. However, Vision defeats Pertuz, Maximoff manages to tie Khan in knots, and Masters defeats Karnak with Maximoff's help. Johnson notes that Lafayette is still standing and asks if she's still willing to fight. Lafayette agrees, even when Zabo orders Masters to stab her, but then Zabo has the idea of having Masters kill Devil Dinosaur instead. Lafayette immediately surrenders at that threat. Johnson protests, but Lafayette says that Johnson might not have anything left to lose but others do, and that she's not willing to see her pet die just so Johnson can get revenge for her deceased comrades. Zabo compliments Lafayette's intelligence and says he wishes Johnson were more like her, to which Lafayette says she wishes Johnson had killed him. Zabo shrugs this off and has the Secret Warriors all arrested. He also confiscates Johnson's gauntlets and orders his team to make Devil Dinosaur spit out Wilson.
Onboard the helicarrier Telemachus, Johnson demands the others be freed, but Zabo refuses since the team attacked a HYDRA internment camp. He notes that Karnak got the team to look for Leer and wonders if Johnson even knows what Leer can actually do. She has no answer, and Zabo concludes that she doesn't, meaning she didn't ask Karnak any follow-up questions like how Karnak knows where Leer is. She just gathered a team and ran off to seek vengeance without even telling them that's what she was doing. She played her team, he tells her, the same way she herself was played. Johnson, visibly distressed, says she doesn't know what he means, and he slaps her. Then the room begins to shake and Johnson smiles, saying she figured he would hit harder. Zabo hits her again, and when Wilson protests that they shouldn't be hitting the person shaking the helicarrier, he hits Wilson too. This knocks Wilson close enough to Lafayette for her to lift a boot and use its magnets to attract a vile of liquid nitrogen from Wilson's belt pouch.
Lafayette begins to douse her chains in liquid nitrogen as Zabo and Wilson argue over whether Zabo is actually in charge of Wilson or not. Wilson walks out and Johnson mocks Zabo's leadership difficulties, to which Zabo points out that Johnson's last team died in front of her so she's hardly one to talk. Then the room shakes again and Zabo protests that he thought Johnson needed her gauntlets to use her powers; she says he clearly didn't spend enough time with her. Lafayette breaks free as an agent rushes in to Zabo that the ship is breaking apart. He leaves to deal with it, ordering two minions to somehow stop Johnson. They argue over whether to shoot her (and be subsequently executed by Zabo) or do nothing (and die when the ship crashes), but Lafayette manages to sneak behind them and rewire their jetpacks to detonate instead.
Johnson asks Lafayette how she did that and Lafayette says that, as she's the smartest person in the world, it wasn't too hard to think of an escape. Lafayette frees Johnson and the two then wake up and free Karnak, Pertuz, and Khan, with Johnson saying she damaged the ship enough that it's sure to crash and they have to escape immediately. Lafayette asks what her plan was and Johnson says she didn't have one, she just wanted to crash the ship. Pertuz says that was a terrible plan and Johnson tells him to calm down since they can just steal a flying vehicle to escape. Lafayette runs off to find Devil Dinosaur despite Johnson telling her there's no time. Then some flaming debris falls between them and preventing Lafayette from rejoining the group. Johnson tells her to find her way to the deck so they can all escape together without leaving anyone behind, but Lafayette just runs away and says Johnson was already willing to abandon Devil Dinosaur.
Lafayette makes her way to a communications station and knocks out the HYDRA agent there with a fire extinguisher, then sends a distress call to anyone who can hear. She then looks behind her and sees Devil Dinosaur tied up in a very large box with just his head sticking out. Meanwhile, the others reach the escape pods but find all the pods have already launched. Khan begs to know if Johnson has some secret escape plan but Johnson admits she has nothing, meaning the four can only stand on the deck as the ship crumbles around them. However, two X-Men suddenly fly through a hole in the ship; they heard Lafayette's message and came to rescue them. Johnson wants to wait for Lafayette but is told there is no time.
Lafayette finds an escape pod near Devil Dinosaur's position and sets about freeing her pet from the box so they can get in the pod and leave. However, Leer then shows up and says the dinosaur won't fit. He introduces himself but says he has no powers when Lafayette asks him to help open the box. She asks him to just help her push then, but Leer says there's no time. When she protests that they still have 47 seconds he says that isn't what he meant, and then an unseen figure knocks out Lafayette.
The helicarrier crashes. Outside, Johnson, Karnak, Pertuz, and Khan can only watch as the X-Men drop them off; all seem distraught at Lafayette's apparent death, and Johnson even says she's sorry. Johnson then swears that she will kill Rogers for what he has done.
