In a flashback, Gudako and Ritsuka Fujimaru stood in a room in Chaldea. Gudako was going to summon her first Servant. Ritsuka lectured her to treat the Servant with respect. Gudako performs the summoning ritual and gets a tall man in a black cloak with pitch black skin and a white skull mask, Hassan of the Cursed Arm, one of the 19 Hassan-I-Sabbah, the Old Man of the Mountain. He introduces himself and says he's an Assassin, but Gudako immediately freaks out due to his appearance. Ritsuka scolds her, and they get into a childish argument. Hassan sighs, but Gudako calms down and says she's looking forward to working with him. He agrees, then she asks him what's with his unusual looking arm.

In the present, Hassan is thinking he's getting too old for this shit. The group flies to Beacon Academy in the Bullhead. Hassan doesn't like it because it is too loud and in general terrible for stealth. When they see Beacon Academy, he decides it's not as impressive as Camelot, but at least it's friendlier. When they land, they check on Gudako and are horrified by her condition. Her condition reminds Hassan of what happened to Sakura Matou in the Fifth Holy Grail War. Ozpin reminds him of Merlin, with eyes full of wisdom but none of his mischievousness. Ozpin's colleague Glynda Goodwitch reminds him of Queen Medb because of her riding crop. She starts questioning them.

She asks about his favorite foods, and he quickly explains he can eat anything except pork because it is forbidden by his faith, but he prefers liquid food. She asks about his previous occupations and where he learned how to fight, and he gives vague answers. She asks him to remove his skull mask because it is not appropriate, but he says it is wired to his skull, and even if it wasn't, it is a part of his culture and he will not remove it. She says fine, but he should be careful because that mask makes him resemble a member of the White Fang, a violent terrorist group that fights for Faunus rights, so people might attack him. He says he's dealt with people who judge him by his looks his whole life and he can take care of himself. She asks about his Semblance, and he tells a half truth that it lets his right arm stretch.

After Hassan is interviewed, it is EMIYA Alter's turn. In the waiting room, Lancelot is nervous and was like that ever since he first saw Glynda. Hassan assumes he's attracted to her, since he was a notorious playboy in his legend. Angra Mainyu lays down and takes a nap. Annoyed, Hassan starts reading magazines learning how nearly every weapon in this world can shape shift and double as a gun, there are seemingly magical crystals called Dust that is used in everyday life, and of the Schnee Dust Company, which is the largest Dust mining corporation in the world. He decides all of this can be useful if they are stuck here forever. Lancelot reads a magazine and his eyes light up when he sees the weapons.

After the questioning, Ozpin provides the four of them with a room, data devices/phones called scrolls, and a bank account connected to the scrolls. The school year will start in a few days, and they are free to travel to the city of Vale if they wish. Hassan finds this suspicious, so Ozpin says if they can trust his staff to cure Gudako, he can trust them to be model students. After Ozpin leaves, Angra Mainyu and Lancelot start talking about how hot Glynda was. Hassan says to himself he'll endure any Hell, even this one, for Gudako.

Shortly afterwards, Hassan leaves the room and enters Vale via Roof Hopping. He doesn't feel guilty about leaving EMIYA Alter alone with the others. While he knows he won't kill them because Angra Mainyu is Gudako's boyfriend and Lancelot is useful and loyal, Hassan won't mind if he shoots them in the kneecaps. Hassan is scouting the city to learn its layout, and although Gudako wouldn't approve, he's willing to resort to the murder technique he gained from the demon Shaytan to gain information. Standing over an alley, he looks down and sees a man in a butcher's apron standing over a cowering little girl with a tail, a Faunus. The man accuses the girl of stealing from him, but she denies it. The man leers and orders her to strip to prove it, saying she's just an animal and doesn't need clothes. Angered, Hassan jumps down. The man mistakes him for a member of the White Fang and calls for help, but Hassan says the man is scum and no one will miss him. He declares his Noble Phantasm, Zabaniya: Delusional Heartbeat. His right arm stretches and extracts the man's heart, then crushes it as the man drops dead.

Hassan then eats the heart and the girl throws up. The girl is terrified and reasons this person can't be a White Fang soldier, he's a Grimm. She looks up and can't see him anywhere. Hassan tells her to go home and not tell of this to anybody, but he will protect her until she makes it. She asks what is he, and he answers, "Shaytan." She looks around and sees that the man's corpse is gone. Scared, but at the same time feeling safe, she runs for home.

Hassan dashes across rooftops following the girl. Normally, he's a professional who kills all witnesses, but he can't help but feel compassion for her. He had received memories of his alternate self from the Camelot Singularity, where King Hassan allowed him to retire and return to his family, his child. A blade attached to a gun by a ribbon flies through the air toward him and he dodges it. A figure fires bullets at him and he dodges while still keeping an eye on the girl, who is scared by the gunfire. The bullets make whatever they hit become covered with ice. He sees his attacker is a girl with long black hair, a black and white outfit, and a black bow on her head. She tells him not to move, but he says she attacked him first, and since she witnessed him, he can't allow her to leave. She shoots at him some more and he throws a few daggers, but they avoid the attacks. Once he gets close enough, he uses Zabaniya, only to be shocked when she replaces herself with an ice clone that traps his hand. She tries to chop his arm off, but he breaks the ice and retracts his arm.

The girl remarks that he doesn't seem to be a White Fang soldier, and he shocks her by revealing he knows she's a Faunus. Faunus have Innate Night Vision, and with his pitch black body and little light this night, that's the only way she would be able to follow his movements. She asks why he was following the girl, and he answers he was making sure she returned home safely. She points out he killed someone and she cannot in good conscience let a murderer get away. He points out her bullets were all aimed at his vitals, so she probably has experience in killing herself, which she denies. Noting her age, he asks if she's a student in Beacon Academy. If she is, then he can't kill her because she would be a fellow student. She accuses him of lying about being a student, and even if he wasn't, he still killed someone. He says the man was going to hurt that little girl and had hurt others in the past, all Faunus. He had no family and no one is going to miss him. She says if he's telling the truth about being a student, she'll see him in a few days at orientation. He introduces himself as Hassan-I-Sabbah, and she introduces herself as Blake Belladonna. She asks him to show her his face, but he says his mask is wired into his skull and Glynda cleared him to keep it. As they part ways, Hassan is impressed by Blake's skill and muses that if he rebuilds the Hashshashin here, she'll be his first recruit. He wants to know if this place has any religion. Looking through the man's memories, he was an atheist.
