- Fake-Out Twist: No, the Treacherous Deceiver wasn't Garmadon, as the name and the dark-haired boy in the story's illustrations indicate. In the next scene, Wu tells the Ninja that it's him.
- Separate Scene Storytelling: The story that Acidicus tells the Ninja is shown in monochromatic 2D images to differentiate it from the present.
- Unreliable Expositor: Acidicus admits that the legend is very old and may have not actually happened.
