Recap / My Little Pony 'n Friends E45: "The Revolt of Paradise Estate 1"

Go To

In Paradise Estate, Paradise is telling a story featuring a giant, and punctuates it by stomping loudly on the ground. This also punctuates the house's poor state of repairs, as each stomp sends plaster falling from the ceiling. Having to admit that things are getting pretty bad, the ponies set about fixing their home. This doesn't work out so well, and Paradise and Sweet Stuff set out for walk to take a break. They come across a peddler on the way, who sells them a can of magic paint that he claims will fix all their problems.

When they return home, after a bit of incredulity, the ponies apply the paint to every wall and piece of furniture, and the painted items miraculously repair themselves. They also come to life, developing faces, mobilities and personalities. This go fairly well at first, with the living furniture helping the ponies out with chores and tasks — Baby Cuddles's baby buggy becomes particularly fond of her. Soon enough, however, the living objects become bossy and controlling, ordering the ponies about, berating them when they do something wrong, and eventually deciding that they can do a perfectly fine job of running things without them. In short order, the ponies find themselves run out of their house by a mob of angry furniture (except for the baby buggy, who is genuinely upset at being separated from her charge).

This episode contains examples of:

  • Animate Inanimate Object: The magic paint brings anything it's used on to live, including assorted furniture, household implements, a baby buggy, floorboards, fence posts, the house gate and the like, all of which gain faces, personalities, speech and motion. They cooperate with the ponies at first, but eventually get fed up with them and decide that they can run the household just fine on their own.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: The ponies are perfectly willing to accept that they live in a world of magic where teleportation, telepathy, wizards and witches, magical rainbows, evil penguin kings with freezing Eye Beams, living mountains and giant stone dogs with a petrifying touch are all things that exist, but magic paint is where they draw the line.
  • Stay in the Kitchen: A literal example with the kitchen door refusing to let Cupcake out and telling her to get back to work.
