This is what's considered special ed in Moralton.
Tommy, one of Orel's friends, is declared mentally retarded by the school for not accepting at face value that God is behind everything in the world. Orel learns from Clay that God sometimes makes 'blunders' like Tommy, but it's not for mere humans to question how or why he lets them exist, as they are part of God's master plan. Orel later defends the special education kids from bullies, saying they should be pitied, not mocked.
Tropes:
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Tommy's mother treats her son like an idiot in front of Orel i.e. blending his lunch into a mushy paste so he doesn't choke and slaps a helmet on him inside the house.
- Does This Remind You of Anything?: Tommy, who doesn't take life at face value unlike the other kids, is bullied and treated like an idiot for thinking differently, similar to how neurodivergent children are treated in school.
- Dunce Cap: Reverend Putty slaps a dunce cap on Tommy's head after the latter brings up how time keeps going.
- Misplaced Kindergarten Teacher: Miss Stoopdown talks to the "special ed" class like they're developmentally disabled and don't know anything.
- Spoof Aesop: People who don't take everything at face value are perfectly stupid and should be pitied rather than violently bullied.
