A famous prize-fighter, "Gentleman Joe" Cavanaugh, is coming to visit the 4077th. He is on a goodwill tour and will be at MASH 4077 for five hours to shake hands with the wounded and have lunch. Supply has been ordered to provide anything to the units Joe is visiting to make him comfortable. Klinger uses this to his advantage, ordering steaks. Joe arrives and is very pleasant in front of the public. However, in private, he is a jerk.

Houlihan refuses to pose with Joe, as she is put off by boxers. At lunch, Joe has a stroke. Hawkeye is the one to treat him. Hawkeye is not able to do anything to save him. Col. Potter decides to keep it quiet to provide privacy and rest to Joe, in his final hours. The army information officer, Hatch, disagrees and calls in the entire press corps. A busload of reporters arrives at midnight and wakes up the entire camp. Hawkeye becomes spokesman to the press, and he loves the spotlight too much, neglecting to give credit to the rest of the 4077th. BJ and Winchester criticize Hawkeye for basking in the spotlight.

A new batch of wounded arrive and in an inspired act, BJ tries an electric shock on a patient to revive his heart. He had read about this in a magazine and tries it on the patient with Potter's permission. The technique works and the patient lives. Hawkeye shares this story with the reporters, but they aren't impressed at all. Unfortunately Joe dies.

Attention all personnel, the following tropes are requested from supply:

Aesop Amnesia: Hawkeye should really know better than to let media attention go to his head and distract him from his medical duties, as he gave the same lecture to Charles three seasons ago.
