Professor Minerva McGonagall arrives at the Potter-Evans-Verres residence to demonstrate the existence of magic, just as Harry requested. She begins by levitating Michael, and follows up by Transfiguring herself into a cat. Harry temporarily goes mad from the revelation; understandable, since his entire worldview – that physics governs all things in the universe – has been shattered.
After Harry collects himself and decides that science will simply have to start again, Harry's father explains to McGonagall that there's a problem: Harry's sleep cycle is 26 hours long, and this has proven to make attending school very unproductive for him. McGonagall assures that she will work out a solution in time.
Tropes present in this chapter:
- Artistic License – Physics: Levitating Harry's dad also violated conservation of energy. In fact Harry's entire physics rant is nonsense.
- Clap Your Hands If You Believe: Harry prepares for this possibility when McGonagall comes for a practical demonstration of magic.
