Big Damn Heroes:
- During the Battle of New York, just as the Union mech looks to be about to fire on the evac transport, it is hit by the just arriving Razor aircraft.
- During Operation Coyote, both Julian and Yasamin make their arrivals in this manner.
Double-Meaning Title: This is the pilot episode of the series, but the main character, Julian Chase, is introduced as an aviation pilot. The episode is partly about how Julian's piloting exploits buy the Vanguard time to evacuate as many people as they can before the enemy takes control of the city.
Foreshadowing: Chase's holographic image, plus the Chase we see in the promotional material and opening credits, have blue eyes. However, Chase himself has golden eyes. That Chase's promotional material defaults him to blue eyes suggests that he's in a permanent holographic state, implying there's something going on with his body.
