Recap / BoBoiBoy S1 E10 "Fan Mail"

Go To

Probe returns from stealing BoBoiBoy's fanmail, but can't seem to find Adu Du onboard. Computer says that Adu Du went out to buy clothes. Probe decides they just answer the fanmail as Adu Du had instructed them, so Probe reads and answers while Computer mails the replies.

Most letters consist of questions that the series has already addressed, such as why BoBoiBoy isn't in school, what his powers are, why Ochobot granted powers to BoBoiBoy instead of Adu Du, and why Adu Du is after Tok Aba's cocoa specifically, but Probe and Computer answer anyway. Other responses reveal more information, such as that cocoa energy is a depleted resource on Adu Du's home planet due to industrialisation and pollution, and that Probe is a working prototype still in testing phase, and he often gets used as different kinds of appliances according to whatever the cocoa turns him into. Also, the Multi Monster clones returned to the toxic dump to form a village there, and Papa Zola is looking for work in the real world.

They gradually exhaust the sack of letters, some responded to offscreen. Mixed in with the fanmail of questions are also different letters such as one which features BoBoiBoy fanart, and Probe is ecstatic to find a fanart of him... even in his Super Mrs. Probe form. Some letters go unanswered entirely, such as one inquiring why BoBoiBoy episodes keep repeating on TV, which Probe accidentally tears up gives up on reading it entirely when it spontaneously combusts.

Other questions include why Adu Du and Probe perpetually lose to the heroes as if they have no weaknesses, and why Gopal always turns things into sweets. Probe and Computer discuss the weaknesses of BoBoiBoy and his friends, using clips from pre-release character trailers. Probe recalls that Gopal has changed foods into healthier foods (such as fried rice, coconut cake and banana fritters) after one time he learned his lesson about eating too many sweets. Some questions make them hint to events in future episodes, such as the contents of Yaya's biscuits and what BoBoiBoy Wind and Earth can transform into since Lightning can turn into Thunderstorm. Computer states that Wind turns into Cyclone and Earth turns into Quake.

They finish answering all the letters by sundown and Adu Du has returned by then. He isn't pleased to know that the letters were answered sincerely when he instructed them to answer the fanmail rudely to make BoBoiBoy's fans hate him, but Computer finds one last letter in the bag, which Adu Du answers himself. Two days later, the ship receives mail: the letter that Adu Du replied to, only to find out that it's Probe's fan-letter, and he beats up Probe for it.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Probe and Computer respond to the letters from real-life fans, fully aware that BoBoiBoy is a show and even give sneak peeks on upcoming episodes, telling fans/the audience not to miss them.
  • Clip Show: The episode acts something like one, as a lot of the questions are answered by playing footage of previously-seen episodes (and even some that hadn't aired up to this point yet).
  • Continuity Overlap: With the spinoff series, What Yaya Says (or Apa Kata Yaya), where the episode where Gopal had too many sweets is used as a clip. This incident is said to be why Gopal has been changing things into healthier foods.
  • Do-Anything Robot: Computer explains that during their cocoa experiments, Adu Du tested their results on Probe, who transformed into various appliances depending on the sample. Adu Du resumed those experiments to use Probe as a washing machine, vacuum cleaner, oven, a wok note  and a gas canister.
  • Entertainment Below Their Age: One of the fan letters is from Ahmad Kassim bin Abu Kassim, the father of one of the previous fans who had sent a letter. This person is immediately commented upon by Probe and Computer as the series is for children.
Probe: Hmm, a fifty-five year-old fan of BoBoiBoy?
Computer: Sounds like this old man is young at heart!
  • Filler: This episode takes a break from the story to recap and clarify what's already happened and hint at what's to come. Additionally, the following episode recaps the episode before this one when the heroes escaped the Dream World.
  • Fourth-Wall Mail Slot: Probe and Computer answer questions sent to them by real-life fans.
  • Shouldn't We Be in School Right Now?: Discussed and subverted as Probe clarifies that BoBoiBoy is only visiting Rintis Island for the school break.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Adu Du is absent for the majority of this episode as he went out to buy clothes.
