- Downplayed: Alice is a trans woman who is waiting to undergo surgery. Alice's boyfriend still wants to date her, but he'd rather wait until she's had the surgery.
- Justified: There are laws against cis people to date trans people, so few people would date Bob because then they'd be breaking the law.
- Inverted: Bob is a cisgender man who's having a hard time dating because he's cisgender.
- Subverted: Bob gets a date.
- Double Subverted: But his date only wants to fetishize him because he's transgender and doesn't actually love him.
- Parodied: Alice is a pre-op trans woman. Bob is her boyfriend who has recently discovered she has a penis. He likes her for who she is and wants to be with her, but feels that he can't because, in Bob's words:Bob: Alice has a dick. If I touch it, that means I'm gay. If I'm gay, I can't be with Alice because she identifies as a woman. So I'd be in a relationship where touching my partner's genitals and enjoying it would make us incompatible. See the problem?
