Basic Trope: A character grabs something out from under a slow moving door at the last second.

  • Straight: James Nebraska's hat falls off as he slides under a closing garage door. At the last second, he reaches back under the door to get it out.
  • Exaggerated: Nebraska's hat falls off well out of arm's reach, so he sprints back in to grab it, sliding back out in the nick of time.
  • Downplayed: Nebraska makes it out of the room with plenty of time to spare, so retrieving the hat has no urgency.
  • Justified: Nebraska's hat is the Macguffin. Without it, Nebraska has a whole lot more at stake than his hand.
  • Inverted:
    • Nebraska throws hit hat like a frisbee to ensure it makes it out safely, before himself escaping.
    • Nebraska lifts the door back up to retrieve an already crushed hat.
  • Subverted: Nebraska's hat comes off on his way out the door. He looks back, before deciding it's not worth risking his safety.
  • Double Subverted: ...But changes his mind at the last second.
  • Parodied: Nebraska brings a lasso on his journey, just in case he loses his hat.
  • Zig Zagged: Nebraska loses his hat, escapes, realizes he lost it, decides it's not worth it, only to change his mind, run back, get it, lose it again, and finally get it out for real.
  • Averted: Nebraska does not go back for his hat.
  • Enforced: The work Nebraska stars in is an Indiana Jones parody, and it wouldn't feel right not to include such a callback.
  • Lampshaded: "And there goes Nebraska, saving his hat again."
  • Invoked: The tomb builders align the slow moving doors with a draft, increasing the likelihood an explorer goes back for loose articles.
  • Exploited: Traitorious Tyler, after getting out from the door, traps Nebraska in while he gets his hat.
  • Defied: Nebraska gets a strap for his hat, preventing it from falling off.
  • Discussed: "Are you crazy? No hat is worth your life!"
  • Conversed: "We all know you only need two things to be an explorer - a nice hat, and the reflexes to save said hat."
  • Implied: Nebraska slides under the falling door, only to look back and see his hat on the other side. We see him wearing the hat again in the next scene.
  • Deconstructed: Nebraska slides under a falling door and reaches back to grab his hat. The door closes on his hand before he can pull it back, causing it to be broken off, causing immense pain.
  • Reconstructed: Nebraska returns to the other side of the temple on his way out. He sees his hat and limps towards it in pain. With his good hand he gets his hat back but he seems to only be getting it back out of spite, having lost a hand for it.
  • Played For Laughs: Nebraska and his partner, Lisa, play a game of hat chicken, seeing who can save their hat as close to the last second as possible without chickening out.
  • Played For Drama: Lisa becomes increasingly worried about Nebraska's style over substance approach, especially in terms of the hat roll.
