Basic Trope: A problem is solved by eating the thing that causes the problem.

  • Straight: Bob ends up filling the house with popcorn, so he and Alice eat their way out.
  • Exaggerated: Popcorn covers the whole town, or even the whole planet, so everyone needs to eat their way out.
  • Downplayed: The popcorn only fills one room, and the two of them only need to eat a little bit of it to clear the way since they can push the rest to one side.
  • Justified: Both Alice and Bob had not eaten in three days, so they were able to eat a lot in one go.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted:
    • One of them accidentally swallows the other and has to spit them out, spitting out all the chewed-up popcorn, and thus making them need to get out a different way.
    • Alice and Bob try eating their way out of the popcorn, but they end up eating too much and throwing up before they can.
  • Double Subverted:
    • Alice accidentally swallows Bob. She thinks she will have to spit him and the popcorn out, but he gets out on his own and they continue eating.
    • Alice throws up. Bob is able to keep going until they get out.
  • Parodied:
  • Zigzagged:
  • Averted:
    • Alice and Bob don't ever have to save a food-related problem.
    • Alice and Bob just dig their way out of the popcorn.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded:
Alice: "I can't believe you ate all that popcorn!"
Bob: "Well, how else was I supposed to get rid of it? I didn't want it to go to waste!"
  • Invoked: Emperor Evulz gets rid of his leftover popcorn by trapping characters in it, hoping they'll eat it.
  • Exploited: Alice and Bob are hungry, and they tell Emperor Evulz not to trap them in popcorn, and he does and they eat their way out.
  • Defied: "Don't eat that! It's been on the floor! Find some other way out!"
  • Discussed: "If I was trapped in popcorn, could I eat my way out?"
  • Conversed: "These characters must have bottomless stomachs if they can eat their way out of a whole houseful of popcorn!"
  • Implied: We don't see how they got out of the popcorn-filled house, but they're seen looking nauseous as though they ate too much.
  • Deconstructed:
  • Reconstructed:
  • Played for Laughs:
  • Played for Drama:
  • Played for Horror: Alice and Bob's ability to eat that much popcorn is a sign of Horror Hunger.
