Nightmare Fuel / The Garden of Evening Mists

• Yun Ling's aphasia means she temporarily loses the ability to read. She writes her own name and can't understand it. Luckily the episode passes... this time. She's left with the knowledge these episodes will get worse and worse until her ability to communicate is completely, permanently gone.
• When the Japanese army is approaching, all of the women cut their hair in an attempt to make themselves look less appealing. Yun Ling reflects that this was the first time in the war she was truly afraid.
• Everything about the comfort women. All of the captured women are forced to line up, and some are singled out and dragged away. They're locked up in a brothel and raped every day. Most of them are very young, some as young as thirteen. Some of them are driven to suicide.
• Yun Ling meets a nun who had been a comfort woman. She survived the camp, only for her own community to reject her for being raped. Her father was so disgusted with her that he sold her to a brothel.
