Nightmare Fuel / The Brave Locomotive

Go To

  • The sequence of Linus's reassignment to a mountainous forestry railroad.
    • Linus passes a sign that reads "point of no return", with vultures perched atop the sign.
    • The first locomotive that Linus sees on the forestry railroad has dirty paint, creepy green lamps for eyes, and a deformed cowcatcher for a mouth.
    • When Linus finally meets his designated driver, he realizes that the man is more of a slave driver than a proper engineer.
    • The line of scrapped locomotives, the last of which looks like Linus, all tell the viewers that Linus may actually die in slavery.
    • To top off the sadness and nightmarishness of the scene, Linus is literally chained up like a draft animal, cruelly whipped by the driver. The thin overseer does nothing to make things better, as he threateningly gestures with his revolver.
  • When Linus breaks free, the fat driver falls off the lumber flatbed and into the smokestack of the creepy locomotive from earlier. Said locomotive menacingly narrows his eyes in glee as he takes the fat driver into the dark tunnel.
  • Samson's accident at the wooden trestle bridge. While Linus saving him from falling off said bridge was epic to watch, Samson was very terrified throughout the scene. The implications of failure at this point of the film are not pretty.
