* Charging an attack stops the timer for the duration of the charge. This is likely a reference to the anime's infamous use of InactionSequence.

** Another move of his is to turn his opponents into chocolate, which he did to Dabura. Notably, [[DoingItForTheArt every character has a unique cookie form, including DLC characters]].

** His use of the Afterimage Technique (one fake Krillin dashes towards the opponent while another, tangible Krillin kicks the opponent from above) is something he did when he fought General Blue.

** And of course, he has his classic Wolf Fang Fist / Rōgafūfūken, as well as its neo variant.

* Base Goku vs. Frieza on Planet Namek: If Goku wins, he knocks Frieza back, and while Frieza is recovering, charges a Spirit Bomb and throws it at him. Frieza attempts to blocknd is overpowered by the attack. Afterwards, Goku collapses from fatigue, before looking at the player with a smile, just like how he did when the group thought they had defeated Frieza.

* Adult Gohan vs. Broly in the Wasteland: If Gohan wins, he, Goten and Goku show up and perform the Family Kamehameha to kill Broly, Broly's last words being "KAKAROOOOOOOT!"

** One of his special moves is the Spirit Ball, a move he used once during the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, and in the [[NonSerialMovie non-canon film]] [[Anime/DragonBallZTheTreeOfMight Tree of Might.]]
** And of course, he has his classic Wolf Fang Fist, as well as its neo variant.

** Piccolo's Color 2 has the same color as Demon King Piccolo's clothing from ''Dragon Ball'', minus the "ma" symbol on the front.

* Goku's transformation effect in his fight intro resembles his transformation at the end of the first ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' OP.
* Vegeta's transformation scene perfectly mirrors when he first became a Super Saiyan in the manga.

** Base form Goku's Color 2 is based off the colors of his dogi worn at the cover of Volume 27 of the ''Dragon Ball Z'' manga.
** Master Roshi's Color 2 is the colors of his more well-known outfit. He also has a Color 9 that copies the colors of the Turtle School gi and a Color 12 based on Jackie Chun's outfit.
** Yamcha's Color 2 is based on his baseball uniform from early ''DBZ'' filler and the ''Super'' episode.
** Krillin's Color 2 is based off the Chinese shirt he wears early in ''Super''.
** Tien's Color 2 has the Red and Green colors of ''Dragon Ball'' and ''Z'', which first appeared when he was under the Crane Hermit.

** Nappa's Color 2 gives him the colors in his first anime appearance, the incorrect black and brown, which also resembles Raditz's battle armor.

** Bardock's Color 2 is based off the Saiyan armor worn by his wife Gine (specifically, the coloration it was given in ''Extreme Butoden'' and ''Fusions''); he also has color schemes that give his armor the colors of the suits worn by his former comrades (Tora, Borgos, Shugesh, and Fasha; Colors 2, 3, 4, and 8 respectively) and his sons, Goku and Raditz (Colors 9 and 10).
** Goku's Color 2 (in both Super Saiyan and Blue) is based off the gi he wore at the start of the original ''Dragon Ball'' anime and a red and black outfit that greatly resembles the color scheme of the original anime adaptation.
** Cooler's Color 2 gives him the same colors as his brother Frieza. There's another color that gives him gold skin, seemingly referring to how ''Super Dragon Ball Heroes'' had him achieve the same GoldenSuperMode as Frieza.
** Future Trunks' Color 2 is based on the green sweater he wore during ''Super''.
** Android 17's Color 2 is based on the outfit he wore during the Android Saga (inverting the situation with his ''DBZ'' counterpart, listed below).
** Android 18's Color 2 is based off her civilian clothing from ''Dragon Ball Super'', and she has another set resembling Bulma's spacesuit from the Frieza Saga.
** Android 16's Color 2 is inspired by the dark blues of Android 8 from ''Dragon Ball''.
** Cell's Color 2 is taken from the Cell Jrs. His purple scheme makes him resemble Genome, the Android Berserker character from ''VideoGame/DragonBallHeroes'', while his red scheme resembles Genome's "God Perfect" form (his equivalent to Super Saiyan God). Another colour option heavily resembles one of Toriyama's art pieces for him, using a darker green and swapping the yellows for orange.
** Broly's Color 2 is based on his father, Paragus. He also has a scheme that uses the colors of Goku's dogi, making him resemble Karoly, the Goku/Broly fusion from ''VideoGame/DragonBallFusions''.
** Teen Gohan's Color 2 is based off the outfit he wore during the Saiyan and Frieza Sagas (or alternately, the purple and red gi he wore early in the Buu Saga).
** Videl's Color 2 is based on the outfit she wore after her battle with Spopovich, minus the word "FIGHT" on her shirt.
** Majin Buu's Color 2 makes him resemble Evil Buu.
** Gotenks' Color 2 is inspired by Xeno Gotenks from ''VideoGame/DragonBallHeroes''.
** Adult Gohan's Color 2 gives him the same color scheme as Teen Gohan during the Cell Games, with a white undershirt referencing the Piccolo-style shoulder pads and cape.
** Kid Buu's Color 2 gives him colors resembling his reincarnation Uub as he appeared in ''GT''.
** Janemba's Color 2 is based on his pre-transformation form.
** Beerus's Color 2 is based off Whis' clothing, while his other alternate colors make reference to the other Gods of Destruction.
** Hit's Color 2 is based off Auta Magetta, another fighter from Universe 6.
** Goku Black's Color 2 resembles Future Trunks' clothing from ''Super''.
** Fused Zamasu's Color 2 is based on the Zen'o.
** Vegito's Color 2 copies Fused Zamasu's color scheme - the character that this version of Vegito (Blue) fought.
** Android 21's Color 2 resembles Dr. Gero (Android 20)'s clothing.
** Jiren's Color 2 is based on Vermoud, his universe's God of Destruction.
** Kefla's Color 2 resembles Kibito Kai, another Potara fusion.
** Ultra Instinct Goku's Color 2 resembles the gi he wore during the last arc of the original manga and ''Z'', and his Color 7 resembles the purple gi from the original ''Dragon Ball''.
** Gogeta's Color 2 (in both Super Saiyan Blue and Super Saiyan 4) copies Vegito's color scheme.
** Like his ''Z'' counterpart, DBS Broly's Color 2 is based on his own version of Paragus.
** GT Goku's Color 2 has the coloration of his orange gi, and like with Ultra Instinct, his purple gi is his Color 7.
** Super Baby 2's Color 2 copies the colors of Vegeta's normal outfit from ''GT''.
** This also extends to support characters: like Tien, Chiaotzu gets an outfit based off his original appearance, Android 17 gets colors based off of his park ranger outfit from ''Super'', and Zamasu gets the same colors as Shin, the Eastern Supreme Kai from Universe 7. If the long-haired Videl is selected, Adult Gohan will have his Saiyaman helmet on, and if Colour 2 is selected for either costumes, he dons the color scheme of Great Saiyaman 2.
* Depending on the starting characters on each team and the arena, cutscenes will play that harken back to key scenes from the series. Depending on who wins afterwards, a "Dramatic Finish" will play that does the same:
** Goku vs. Frieza on Planet Namek: Frieza kills Krillin, triggering Goku's transformation into a Super Saiyan. If Goku wins on Destroyed Namek, he'll fly away. An enraged Frieza will attempt to kill Goku with a final last-ditch attack, which Goku counters, killing Frieza. Following the manga, Goku will then look upon the crater resentfully.
** Teen Gohan vs. Cell at the Cell Games Arena: Cell crushes Android 16's head underfoot, triggering Gohan's ascension into a Super Saiyan 2. In a combination of the two beam-struggles between Cell and Teen Gohan in ''Z'', if Gohan wins on Wasteland, Cell will become desperate and fires a full power Kamehameha. Goku then tells Gohan telepathically to show him their power and he'll fire the Father-Son Kamehameha that obliterates Cell.
** Goku vs. Kid Buu in the Land of the Kais: If Goku wins, he will throw a Spirit Bomb at Buu and then detonate it, destroying Buu before wishing him to come back as a good person in the next life.
** Goku vs. Beerus in Space: Following the climax of ''Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods'', if Beerus wins, he will hurl a Sphere of Destruction at Goku while the latter is falling unconscious to Earth. The call of his friends awaken him and enable his Super Saiyan God powers one last time, allowing him to destroy the Sphere of Destruction before resuming to unconsciously fall, at which point Beerus grabs him by his arm and remarks he's "a fascinating fellow".
** Trunks vs. Frieza in Rocky Field (Noon): If Trunks wins, he will kill Frieza much like how he killed him when he returned to the Earth as Mecha-Frieza.
** Yamcha vs. Nappa in Rocky Field (Noon): If Nappa wins, Yamcha's infamous Saibaman hug will be reenacted before Nappa remarks how pathetic he is for not managing to overpower even one Saibaman. If Yamcha wins, however, he blasts the Saibaman back at Nappa, causing the latter to re-enact the pose.
** Krillin vs. Nappa in Rocky Field (Noon): Cutscene intro of the fight features Krillin using ''Scattering Bullet'' against Nappa and his Saibamen like in the Saiyan Saga, but with only Nappa dodging the blast.
** Goku vs. Broly in Space: If Goku wins, he'll perform the "miracle punch" used to defeat Broly in the first movie.
** Adult Gohan vs. Broly in the Wasteland: If Gohan wins, he, Goten and Goku show up and perform the Family Kamehameha to kill Broly, Broly's last words being "KAKAROOOOOOOT!"
** Bardock vs. Frieza in Space: If Frieza wins, he'll kill Bardock with a Supernova just like he did when he blew up Planet Vegeta. If Bardock wins, Frieza attempts the same trick, but Bardock destroys it, turns Super Saiyan as he did in ''[[Anime/DragonBallEpisodeOfBardock Episode of Bardock]]'', and blasts Frieza away with a ball of energy that explodes, killing the space tyrant.
** Trunks vs. Fused Zamasu in West City (Destroyed): If Trunks wins, he evades Zamasu's attacks and uses the "Spirit Bomb Sword" to [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe cut him in half]] while saying that humanity won't lose to someone who thinks only of himself. This is a recreation of the end of the Future Trunks Saga from ''Super'', [[spoiler:except that it lacks the part where Zamasu comes back as an EldritchAbomination.]]
** Vegito Blue vs. Fused Zamasu in West City (Destroyed): If Vegito wins, Zamasu delivers his "[[IAmTheNoun I am justice! I am the world!]]" rant as VillainousBreakdown sets in...only for Vegito to [[ShutUpHannibal shut him up with a punch to the face]] and finish him off with the Final Kamehameha. This scene is based on their fight from ''Super'', except that Vegito de-fused before he could land a killing blow.
** Base Goku vs. Base Vegeta in Rocky Field (Noon): If Goku wins, they reenact the first beam struggle in the series, with Vegeta flying into the sky and attempting to blow up the Earth with his Galick Gun, which is countered by Goku's Kaioken Kamehameha. Goku then bumps the Kaioken to times four, overpowering Vegeta and defeating him. Afterwards, Goku stands posing like he did after the fight. All of this is a near-perfect recreation of the moment.
** Base Goku vs. Frieza on Planet Namek: If Goku wins, he knocks Frieza back, and while Frieza is recovering, charges a Spirit Bomb and throws it at him. Frieza attempts to block and is overpowered by the attack. Afterwards, Goku collapses from fatigue, before looking at the player with a smile, just like how he did when the group thought they had defeated Frieza.
** Gogeta Blue vs. Janemba in the Land of the Kais: If Gogeta wins, he powers down to normal Super Saiyan and finishes Janemba off with a Stardust Breaker, recreating the climax of their fight in ''Fusion Reborn''. The camera then changes to the POV of the ogre that became Janemba, who awakens and runs away on seeing Gogeta.
** Gogeta Blue vs. Broly (DBS) on Planet Namek (Destroyed): If Gogeta wins, their climactic battle is recreated with Broly going Super Saiyan and Gogeta preparing to finish him off with a Kamehameha, only for Cheelai to use the Dragon Balls to wish Broly back to Vampa at the last second.
** Goku Blue vs. Kefla in Space: If Goku wins, a recreation of the climax of their fight in the Tournament of Power plays, where Goku activates Ultra Instinct Sign, then dodges Kefla's energy waves and finishes her off with a Kamehameha.
** Goku and Frieza vs. Jiren in Space: If Goku wins, the climax of the Tournament of Power is recreated with him and Frieza sending Jiren through the ground and landing in Rocky Field. Goku and Jiren then shake hands and agree to fight again.
* Ginyu's intro has him and the Ginyu Force strike their famous poses while their tag partners just stand and stare at them, similar to Frieza's initial reaction to their antics following their introduction. Ginyu also strikes his trademark fighting poses whenever he summons one of his subordinates; for bonus points, one of these is the "Resurrection Fighting Pose" from ''Super'''s adaptation of ''Resurrection 'F[='=]''.
* In his DynamicEntry, Beerus makes the same facial expression he had on the poster for ''Battle of Gods''.
* Hit's default intro animation faithfully recreates the Time-Skip effect from the ''Super'' anime. The scene itself is also ripped right from his interaction with Frost after losing to Vegeta.
* Kid Buu's victory animation has him blowing up the planet. The scene is based off his first attempt to blow up Earth.
* The face-shot of Black's victory animation is taken from the key visual of the Future Trunks arc.
* Base Form Goku's intro has references to the first opening of the ''Z'' anime, including entering the stage on the Flying Nimbus, and jumping down in a way that resembles Gohan landing on the Flying Nimbus.
* The character art for Base Form Goku and Vegeta is drawn in a way that resembles the more rounded art style used by Toriyama during the Saiyan arc.
* Videl's entry pose with Adult Gohan is taken directly from ''Wrath of the Dragon'', where they appeared as Great Saiyaman and Great Saiyawoman.
* Kid Goku's victory animation is on Shenron's head above the clouds during sunset, which references the ending of ''GT''. He also sports the Nyoi-bo/Power Pole, which he only did in tandem with his ''GT'' outfit in ''The Path to Power'' movie.

* [=SS4=] Gogeta reference the hypothetical fusion, Tiencha, in his victory quote when teaming up with Tien.

!Story Mode

* Speaking of Nappa, during one of his Link Events, he angrily points out how much Vegeta has changed since he last saw him and exclaims "What's he gonna do next, wear pink?!" Vegeta has, in fact, wore pink. Specifically, the pink “BADMAN” shirt Bulma gave him at the beginning of the Android Saga. He wasn’t happy about it, but still.

!Other

* Android 21 certainly follows the footsteps of Creator/ArcSystemWorks' other {{Final Boss}}es, [[VideoGame/GuiltyGear Justice]] and [[VideoGame/BlazBlueCalamityTrigger ν-No.13-]], as all three are females who have an artificial body. In addition, her Super Attack, Photon Ray, is a sweeping laser, which is very similar to Justice and Dizzy's Imperial Ray.

** GT Goku's Color 2 has the coloration of his orange gi, while his original purple gi is referenced in his Color 7.

** Ultra Instinct Goku's Color 2 resembles the gi he wore during the last arc of the original manga and ''Z''.
