Johnnie is reunited with the love of his life...and Annabelle too.
- When Johnnie discovered Annabelle was being held captive on The General by the Union, he knocked out a Union sentry, stole his uniform and pretended to be a Union sentry, and then snuck into a room where Annabelle was being held and helped her escape. Annabelle was extremely touched the Johnnie was willing to go into the enemy's country to save her. (The truth was, he wanted to get his titular locomotive back, but Annabelle didn't know that. Regardless, Johnnie realizes the situation, but decides to let her think that.)
- The majority of the second half of the film was a great relationship moment between the main duo, aside from trying to get back to their town.
- Annabelle finally respecting Johnnie during the ending of the film, and mating him. Johnnie leads her over to the General where he sits with her on the connecting cross-bar between two wheels on the side of his locomotive (as pictured)
