Heartwarming / Shall We Dance (2004)

  • Beverly's speech to Devine the detective about how being married means you have a witness to your life, someone who you share the best experiences with while each making them matter even more to each other. This is followed by how she calls off the surveillance, deciding to trust her husband and let him have his privacy, even if she is still not entirely thrilled with being Locked Out of the Loop.
  • Late in the movie, Vern admits that he lied about being engaged. While he is planning to propose, he wants to learn how to dance first to romantically pop the question on the dance floor, and his constant sweating on the dance floor is making him doubt it will work. However, the next time she is mentioned, it turns out that not only did she say yes, but she signed up to dance in the upcoming big competition with Vern, and they happily light up the dance floor together.
  • Devine and Scotty the private detectives (who quickly get more and more invested in ballroom dancing themselves) and John's wife and daughter secretly watch the competition and greatly enjoy the experience up until John's flub at the end.
  • John shows Beverly that he is ready to apologize and show her how to dance by riding up the escalator to her workplace, wearing his dancing tuxedo, and holding out a rose to her, then leading her in a slow dance in the middle of the store after a brief conversation.
