Heartwarming / Loving Reaper

Go To

  • Black Cats: The old woman whose "Black Cat" friend was deliberately killed demands an older, maimed black cat at the shelter as she's about to be euthanized... and Death shows them to the dead kitten, who is delighted to see Granny has adopted its mother.
  • Little Mo: The Reaper promises the mother albatross that he will take care of her chick.
  • Royal: The strip ends with the Reaper giving the Circus Lion some cat souls to rule over.
  • Opponents: This is the first strip where the focus animal - a fox cub - survives. It nearly drowns in a pool but is saved before The Reaper can claim it. He is actually glad to have been beaten.
  • Little Fish: A sick dog insists on taking a toy with him to the vet. When the Reaper consoles the dog, it reveals that he actually took it along as he thought his owner might need it.
  • Thank You: This is another strip where the focus animal (a Half Blind dog with a missing ear) survives to the end. The Reaper does not even appear here. After being rejected by many potential owners, it is adopted by the shelter worker who was narrating.
  • Price: When Life asks to hold one of the souls Death claimed (a toucan), she's saddened by the creature's passing.
Life: I know he just changed realms...but he'll be missed so terribly nonetheless.
Death: I know, but being missed so deeply is the price for being loved so much.
  • Void Puppy:
    • Atlas (the dog from Little Fish) visiting his owner. He isn't upset about being replaced, and tries to help the new puppy connect with him by giving him his fish toy.
    • While Atlas' owner initially yells at the puppy for holding the fish toy, he immediately feels bad about it, though he acknowledges that it would be difficult for the puppy to replace his beloved dog.
  • On A Mission: The recently deceased cat's interpretation of death is "an eternity to chase butterflies".
  • One Last Ride: The general rapport between the remoras and the shark, as they give each other affectionate nicknames and playfully tease each other. The remoras even stay by the shark's side during its last moments, wishing it "a good ride" as it passes away.
  • Trick or Treat: The Reaper gives a ghost puppy his arm to chew on, after it fails to get candy (due to being a Ghost).
  • It Will Change: The Reaper’s response when the mother owl asks him if her grief for her family will ever pass.
Reaper: No. But it will change. It will feel like an open wound for a long time. There will always be a scar. But someday you’ll treat it as a reminder of your love.
  • Follow Me: The dead cat from "Black Cats" comes back as a guardian spirit and leads an abandoned kitten to safety at the old woman's house, and gets to talk to its mother.
  • Grief: A woman is mourning her recently-deceased cat, and we see the cat's spirit curling up on her as she lays in bed. Death comes to the cat and tells it it's time to go, and it refuses, saying it'll guard her with its life. When Death points out it doesn't have a life, it responds thusly;
