Netflix adaption

Warning: Unmarked spoilers.

  • Darcy:
    • Unlike the rest of the cast, she is very proud of who she is, accepts her sexuality and doesn't care what others think of her or her romance with Tara. She cares and loves Tara deeply, she is very empathetic with her and comforts her when they have problems or others make fun of her.
    • But Darcy is not only nice to Tara, but also to Nick (the boy Tara kissed when she was 13). Darcy is never mean to Nick, and both she and Tara are overjoyed when she finds out about Nick and Charlie's romance.
  • Tori:
    • She is the best and most supportive big sister possible. She congratulates Charlie to breaking up with Ben (because he's a knob), is the first person to pick up on Nick's feelings, and comforts Charlie when he's at his lowest.
    • In addition to Tori, Jane, and Julio Spring are also shown to be supportive of Charlie, with Julio comforting Charlie after Harry's party and Jane greeting Nick amiably when he shows up at their house the next day drenched.

Season 1

  • Charlie, Nick (and of course Nellie) playing in the snow together, which Nick later says was his favourite day ever.
  • Tara and Darcy befriending Elle when they notice how lonely she is, and confiding in her about their relationship.
  • Mrs. Nelson picking up on how much happier Nick is with Charlie.
"He's very different to your other friends. You seem much more yourself around him."
  • Despite Charlie being a "borderline outcast" Nick is immediately friendly, making sure to always say hi when they meet, teasing each other in form, and inviting him to hang out. It's a much-needed contrast to Ben, who won't even acknowledge Charlie in public.
  • Darcy and Tara are not only more affectionate with each other at Harry's birthday party, but they also kiss for the first time in public while dancing and laughing. Nick's proud smile is the icing on the cake. And it's not just the kiss that counts, but the sight of them is what inspires Nick to accept his feelings for Charlie and kiss him a few moments later.
  • Charlie comforting Nick when he breaks down over his new feelings, and reassuring him that it's ok to take the time to figure things out.
  • Charlie's birthday party - all of his friends and Nick are able to hang out, go bowling and just have fun together.
  • Tara and Nick's friendship. With the revelation that they kissed when they were 13, one would expect them to interact awkwardly with each other now that they each have their respective love interests. Instead, both are quite close and friendly with each other, to the extent that Tara is the first person to whom Nick reveals his relationship with Charlie.
  • Tao defending Charlie from Harry and the other bullies.
  • Darcy, Tara, Charlie, and Nick scheming to get Elle and Tao together.
  • The gang's "triple date" including Nick telling Elle that he and Charlie are together - he just looks so proud to share their relationship, and Elle is overjoyed at how happy Charlie is.
  • Nick, Charlie, Tao, and Elle coming to find Darcy and Tara before the concert and rescuing them from the locked music room.
  • When Charlie expresses his feeling that everyone would be better off without him, Tori wordlessly hugs him and reassures him that he's not ruining her life and offers to heat them pizza for dinner.
  • Nick refusing to let Charlie believe he's better off without him.
"I need you to know that my life is way better because I met you ... Look, I don't care about getting into fights or pissing off my mates or anything like that. It's all worth it to be with you. You are the kindest, most thoughtful and caring and amazing person in the whole world, and if you really want to break up, then I would respect your decision, but I want us to be together."
  • Charlie and Nick officially confirming they're boyfriends.
  • Nick coming out as bisexual to his mum. She immediately gives him a giant hug and says she loves him. The outtake reel shows that Oliva Coleman was so taken away with emotion during the scene that she forgot her lines.
  • The final shot of the season - Charlie and Nick curled up together while "I Belong in Your Arms" plays in the background.
