  • Jamie learns about his stepfather physically abusing his siblings yet again (after he previously warned him that he would kill him if it happened again) and prepares to drive up to Manchester to do the deed. But Ricky stops him, reminding him that road surveillance is everywhere and the authorities will easily identify him as the suspect. So Jamie reluctantly concedes and instead goes for an Indian dinner with Pete, giving him a solid alibi because Ricky is implied to have done him a favour (without having been asked) and killed the stepfather instead (with a brick). But hold on. What's Ricky's alibi? The CCTV could see his license plates driving north and then back south just as well as Jamie's. He is a good friend and colleague of Jamie's in the SAS and the police would surely suspect that this brotherhood combined with Ricky's willingness to murder antagonists (at least in the official capacity of his job) would make him a strong suspect and investigate further. Pete is clear because he was socialising with Jamie, Henno was tied up planning the assault against the religious cult (probably likewise for Louis or else he might have gone drinking), Captain Ian Macalwain was of course getting intimate with Laura Twamley and betraying Pete's trust. But Ricky, not so much for these alibis. The cops might even have to question Jamie (more than they were shown as doing, this scene establishing that Jamie was able to point to the various witnesses placing him in the Indian restaurant at the time of the murder) to check if he hadn't put Ricky up to doing it, making him a co-conspirator in the crime.
