Past Commanders

Why didn't the other commanders come to help Clarke and Lexa?

  • But then again it is implied that the past commanders where the people with the symbols that were leading Clarke to the kill switch.
  • It's also possible that the reason that they didn't come with Lexa to fight the City Of Light residents is that A.L.I.E was hacking the Flame chip and prevented them from doing so and Lexa was only able to get through because of her love for Clarke.
  • Another possibility is that they didn't want to help Clarke and Lexa because if you remember a few episodes back Lexa had a nightmare that the past commanders disapproved of her refusal to wage war on the Sky People in retaliation of the Trikru massacre by Pike.

Pike and Octavia

Why did Pike save Octavia's life and why did he approach her after the battle?

  • This is addressed on the YMMV page of this episode but their could be other reasons for this. As stated the one theory most viewers believe is that he saved her as some attempt to earn her forgiveness for what he did to Lincoln. One thing that could add to this theory is that he was there when Bellamy talks to her about forgiveness and assumed later on that Bellamy got through to her. Generally he possibly just saved her life because of her being Bellamy's sister and it is shown he still cares about Bellamy despite the fact he betrayed him to the Grounders, but he could also care about Octavia as she used to be one of his students and because she is one of their people despite the fact she feels otherwise.
  • Also stated is the interpretation that he allowed her to kill him and his head nod to her was telling her that he's ready now since he has known that she wanted to kill him since the last episode and she has attempted to do so earlier. Even then to add to this theory through out the episode he is telling her to hold off on her desire to kill him so that he could help in fighting A.L.I.E. The point being he is only telling her not to kill him when their fighting A.L.I.E but he does not make an argument against her not killing him at all. Basically he was telling her work with me now and when this is over we will settle this.

Is Clarke The Commander Now?

Mainly can she qualify to be commander after bonding with the Flame temporarily?

  • One way this is possible is if she still retains the knowledge the Flame gave her when she temporarily used it to defeat A.L.I.E which means she could pass the tests to qualify and their is also the fact that her people are now the 13th clan of the grounder nation so they would have a hard time arguing that she can't be commander. But then again they can say she doesn't qualify because she wasn't born a nightblood and it can be assumed that her blood will turn back to normal after awhile and won't be able to use the Flame again unless she has nightblood pumped into her veins again and of course most grounders will still have a problem because of the fact she wasn't born on Earth and doesn't know everything about their culture.
  • Possibility that they don't even let Clarke do the tests because of their anger towards the Sky People for their recent actions.
