- Okay. Bo'Rai Cho is a pretty good fighter... but he didn't fight for Earth in the first game's tournament. Oh, it's explained that he's an Outworlder, so his victory wouldn't count as a win for Earthrealm. That explains it. Except.. no. Shang Tsung is an Earthrealmer. His victory wouldn't have counted for Shao Kahn under those rules, right?
- Shang Tsung is soul-bound to Shao Kahn.
- Also, Shang Tsung wasn't the Mortal Kombat Champion. Goro was.
- Actually he was the Champion before being defeated by the Great Kung Lao. In the next tournament, he brought up Goro, who became the Champion.
- Shang Tsung was the Champion, but that doesn't mean he was the Champion for Outworld. Being the Champion would have been its own reward for him(because it came with a non-aging benefit), and him working for Shao Khan probably only happened after he lost the tournament and was looking for other sources of functional immortality.
