  • All the girls in the pageant were either of slender to average weight (such as Ellen and Hannah), or obese (such as Willowdean and Millie). In real life there is a large weight range between average sized and obese. Yet in the pageant- and as shown, possibly even in the school- there were no girls who were overweight but not obese, whose clothing size would have been 14-18. Everyone was either in superb shape or clinically obese. In a movie intended to celebrate that "every body is a swimsuit body", they neglected a large segment of the population who is not slender enough to be considered beauty pageant winner material- but who is not large enough to be teased about their weight regularly either.
    • There is a general lack of even minor characters who are say, somewhere between Willowdean and Bekah in body type. So far as the pageant goes, maybe it really is just so focused on physical appearance that typically no one without a slim, athletic body ever dares apply - they could have at least made someone involved in the "revolution" have a more average build to put the point across better though; chances are it would end up being Hannah, since Millie and El's respective physical appearances are too relevant to the plot to be changed.
