When the monster appears to be poisoned by the noxious pie the children made to try and kill it, Clark throws his comic at it, saying he never wants to read about monsters again. But when it wakes up again and corners them, Clark thinks it's mad because he hit it with his comic, only for Gretchen to point out to him that it's mad because they tried to kill it. This moment in the middle of a tense scene is quite the Mood Whiplash.
