- Håkan Nesser's humor in general. So many sentences are not especially funny because of their content but rather because of Nesser's dry writing style.
- Alice, Valdemar's wife, thinks that Valdemar is depressive and wants him to see a therapist. Valdemar however, doesn't think so and wants to tell Alice that he never has felt better in his life, but decides against it because she might misunderstand that and think that he's also manic-depressive, or even worse.
- Valdemar's mantra, "Never better than this", becomes "Never worse than this" when he's at the pathetic party of his brother-in-law.
- The way Valdemar quits his job at Wringman's, in an absolute casual manner.Valdemar: Thanks for twenty eight years. It could have been worse.Wringman: To hell with you!
- When Valdemar first sees Lograna he knows immediately that he wants to but the place. He rings Espen, his estate agent, and asks him if it's still available. Espen then tells him that he sold it this morning and Valdemar almost collapses out of shock, but then Espen tells him he was only kidding.
