Dejaren states that the organics on his ship "took advantage of me," his tone and body language suggesting that he's talking about something a lot more serious than being taken advantage of for labor. At another point he rants about their "carnal pleasures." Considering these quotes; the fact that the small organic crew was likely suffering cabin fever, with pent up frustrations of every kind; and the fact that they viewed the hologram as an inanimate object, that they could take it all out on; and it becomes horrifyingly clear that kind of "abuse" really set off his mental (software?) breakdown and killing spree.
