Fridge / Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo

Fridge Horror:

  • A lot of seemingly innocuous things become, while not exactly scary, rather sad when you watch them as an adult with context of "The Ransom of Scooby Chief".
    • Scrappy's rambunctious behavior and his over-the-top suspicion of practically everyone the gang meets fits in well with the cartoony comedy of the show, and you don't think much about it except for what's going on in the present. Scrappy returning to his old neighborhood is in no way Played for Drama, and he shows nothing but delight and nostalgia for his old home. But where's his mother or father? This is supposed to be his old home. To make matters worse, two shady strangers kidnap Shaggy and Scooby with little trouble, and neither Scrappy nor his old friends, either the more level-headed Duke or more cautious Annie, think of getting help from the police, parents, or otherwise.
    • There's a throw-away bit in "Close Encounters of a Scooby Kind" where Fred, Velma and Daphne get caught in one of Scrappy's traps and a sheepish Scrappy asks if they would send him back to the kennel for a mistake. Basically, he is worried that his new family will throw him out, supporting the theory that he has abandonment issues. You have to wonder what his life was like before he joined Mystery Inc.
