• Once Rubin wanders off alone in the desert, he starts wearing a hubcap on his head, which is tied on with a rag - this can come off as just him being eccentric as usual, but there is a practical purpose - he's using the hubcap as an improvised bonnet to keep the blinding sun out of his eyes.
  • This was also a Shout-Out to this in Harris' next film, Plan 10 from Outer Space, where the female lead wore the same hubcap on her head to blend in at a masquerade party.
