Morhange becoming an orchestra conductor is sad in its own way: by choosing music rather than singing, he wasted his beautiful voice. Of course, it may be that he was a singer in his youth and didn't wish to continue once his voice matured.
Something that comes across as quite poignant is when you realise Morhange may have forgotten all about Mathieu, the person who arguably turned his life around for the better and helped him get where he was today.
