The short in itself is about giving someone a chance. Tying into this, the kitten specifically being a black cat makes sense - in some areas, black cats are rarely adopted, (and sometimes even subject to abuse) due to their traditional association with evil and bad luck... just like pit bulls, who are treated just as badly due to being stereotyped as violent, vicious dogs. Not a whole lot are willing to give them a chance. We get the happy ending because, like the kitten eventually does with the pitbull, their new owner was willing and gave them a chance.
