Fridge Logic: A reader may wonder throughout the story why Tom doesn't utilize the internet in helping with the various mysteries in his life, including the codes in his father's books and the circumstances surrounding his death. Towards the end of the book, it is revealed that his father's death (when Tom was 8) was in 1993, which would place the story around 1999.
