  • Fridge Brilliance: How does someone with such an apparently airtight understanding of the law make such a glaring oversight? Because he's not a legal expert — he's an expert engineer, who thought he'd constructed a perfect murder defence that would run smoothly from one thing to another like one of his marble runs. The one thing he didn't predict is that his wife wouldn't die, so he'd actually be facing a trial for attempted murder. His reaction to this annoying deviation from the plan is to let it run as long as he has to and then immediately go and "correct" it as soon as he's free (like bending the warped marble run back into shape). This is what dooms him — he'd have been fine if he'd let her stay in a coma, as long as she didn't wake up. What's his flaw? He's a perfectionist — it's not enough that something works as intended, it has to go *exactly as planned*.
