- Anne complains that Shakespeare never writes plays about happy marriages or involves her, and he vows to do better in future. Some years after Romeo and Juliet was written, Shakespeare staged Much Ado About Nothing, which feature a couple who behave quite similarly to how Shakespeare and Anne are portrayed here, and whose verbal sparring develops into the most genuine romantic relationship in the play.
