The captain of the Mary Riggs and later the Tiger.
Barca
A freedman who used to belong to Colonel De Russy. Even after being freed, Barca chose to continue to serve the Colonel out of a sense of obligation.
- Born into Slavery: Barca used to be owned by a family in New Orleans. He was treated well and never truly felt like a slave. However, when the family fell on hard times, they decided to sell the slaves to settle the debts. This was the first time Barca felt the difference between being family and being property. Colonel De Russy, a good friend of the family, bought all the slaves and immediately filed their freedom papers after returning home.
- Undying Loyalty: Barca owes Colonel De Russy his freedom, as well as that of his family. As such, he feels obligated to continue serving him.
