TOSC Chapter 11: Plot Holes: The Best Way To Travel

Written By: Thomas
POV: Third Person, transitions to first person with Percy
Chapter Number: 8
Deaths: Ebony(1)

The author threatens to commit suicide with his father's shotgun if no one gives him good reviews, clearly forgetting that there are some people who would want to call his bluff.

Percy and Ebony travel through the south of Moscow. The narration says they had just talked with Michael, telling him to let Jerry know where they are.

It's said that the southern part is the poorest, and there's some detail on the demographics. There are blacks and Indians, but Percy is only interested in converting the former, since he believes the latter too strongly worships their cow god to be receptive. The east part of the town has Asians and some blacks, but Percy considers them "godless" and plans to kill them. The west part has Bodgies, who, despite being criminals, would submit to the lord. The northern part has the coliseum and the white Christians.

Percy says that they should meet up with the church leaders, but shouldnt' talk so that they can keep a low profile and avoid being detected by the police. Ebony agrees with Percy "Klaxon," an amusing typo that turns his last name into something very noisy.

But it turns out that the police aren't the only thing they should be worried about. A man comes out of nowhere, and rapes Ebony, with Percy apparently unable to stop it. Percy kills the rapist, but then, in a show of Prayer Warrior "justice," kills Ebony as well.

While Ebony has done many terrible things, and some would argue that she deserves to die for them, she doesn't deserve to die for being raped, so this incident gives Percy a one-way ticket past the Moral Event Horizon.

This incident also drives home an unfortunate truth about the Prayer Warriors. While refusing to join them leads to almost certain death, if you do convert, the moment you fall from grace or otherwise give them any cause to believe you are a sinner, they will kill you without any hesitation or remorse.

Percy meets up with the church leaders and, in the space of two sentences, decides to strike at John Lennon with them. Soon afterward, Clarisse joins, as does Ebony.

Yes, you read that correctly. Ebony came back to life in the same chapter as she was killed. Even Grover, who has come Back from the Dead for the fourth time, had the courtesy to wait at least a chapter or two before doing so.

Speaking of Grover, he also favors striking at the Communists soon, and Percy agrees, thanking his fellow Prayer Warriors for their support.

Next Installment: As the Prayer Warriors prepare to put their plan into action, Annabeth is forced to fight in the coliseum.
