When we last left off, we've beaten an amorous Zigzagoon, fought May, and caught a Zigzagoon of our own with a Bowie-inspired name.
After catching Stardust, I dash as quickly through Route 101 as my legs (and the Poochyenas) will allow, I go to Oldale City and head left to Petalburg and see what my dad's been up to.
Route 102 looks like it should have some fun mons, and indeed it does! A Lotad shows its lily-pad head, and Ludicolo-shaped sugar plums danced in my mind. Since I can't get Roselia in Emerald for some stupid reason, and Breloom is screwed over by the physical/special move differences, Ludicolo may be my best bet. I catch him, name him Miror, and go on my merry way.
I enter Petalburg to heal my mons, and put Miror as the head. I go back onto Route 102, encounter a Seedot, and select Astonish...
...doing barely any damage. I select it a few more times, each doing paltry damage. Perhaps Lotad isn't the way to go, or I'm just terribly impatient. Either way, I put Captain at the head, collect a Full Heal from Stardust and make my way into Petalburg.
After an undisclosed but certainly embarrassing amount of times trying to get past the guy directing me to the gym (six), I finally put two and two together and go into the Gym, where I meet my father. He says a few words before showing me the other, far superior rival, Wally.
Wally is a sickly young boy that wants a Pokemon companion for when he lives in Verdanturf with his aunt and uncle. Dad gives him a Zigzagoon, and asks me to accompany him. Due to his general adorable-ness and Woobiedom, I'm only too happy to oblige.
We go out onto Route 102, and he comes across a Ralts first try (lucky bastard). He catches it, seems thrilled, and returns the Zigzagoon. After a few more words with my father, I go onto Route 102 to catch me a Ralts of my own!
Lo and behold, first try after my encounter with Wally, I come across a Ralts! And it even has Trace! Enthralled, I catch it and name him Lucian. Being one of those who loves male Ralts and its evolutions, this makes my day.
My business on Route 102 now done, I go west of Petalburg onto Route 104. Seeing nothing that immediately catches my eye (there's one good mon, but I'll get it later), I go into the Petalburg Woods. I'll be spending a bit of time here....
